Inventory before replacing
Separate known failures from missing records, discontinued equipment, inaccessible assets and new operating needs. Test critical openings and representative camera views before assuming a full replacement is required.
Choose repair, retain or replace
Repair can suit a bounded fault on a supportable platform. Selective replacement may solve a specific view or opening. Broader migration may be appropriate when support, administration or integration constraints affect the whole operation. Document the basis for each recommendation.
Design the temporary state
Map how staff enter, where footage is recorded, which platform sends alarms and who answers calls during every phase. Set an approved outage window, rollback trigger and communication plan. Old and new systems may need a priced overlap.
Transfer control deliberately
Verify license and administrator ownership, restore points, user migration, recording access and staff training. Retire old credentials and equipment only after the owner approves the cutover evidence. Reconcile the asset register at the end.
